New book reveals Tom Brady's reaction to deflategate: 'What the f—?'

After deflategate, Tom Brady watched Robert Kraft's press conference and was furious. "What the f—?," he said over the phone to an NFL exec.

Deflategate lives on. Or at least it does in a book released Tuesday titled, “12: The Inside Story of Tom Brady’s Fight for Redemption."

The book, by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge, touches on Brady's annoyance with Patriots owner Robert Kraft. The story, which is highlighted in an excerpt from The Athletic started with Kraft's press conference on the matter, where he stated: “At no time should the agenda of one team outweigh the collective good of the full 32.”

Upon hearing that, the book stated, Brady phoned DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the National Football League Players Association and said: “What the f—? Why am I not getting the support I deserve on this thing?”

Kraft’s star quarterback Tom Brady watched the news conference along with millions of others on television. He was devastated and angry. Brady grabbed his cell phone and punched in the contact number for DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the National Football League Players Association.

“What the fuck?” Brady shouted over the phone.“Why am I not getting the support I deserve on this thing?”

Smith tried to console his client and friend.

“No matter what Kraft says, it has no bearing on our appeal of the four game suspension,” he told Brady. “We’ll be ready for that. Trust me.”

Brady has been known to joke about the controversy that resulted in a four-game suspension in the past, but this new revelation sheds light on the complexity of the situation within New England's organization.
